EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH-QUALITY MATERIALS, METICULOUS VOICING

An upright piano is made up of roughly 8000 parts. Many of those parts are specifically related to sound, and their selection significantly influences the sonic quality of the piano. In crafting the YUS series, we employed the same materials used in our world-famous, flagship Yamaha CFX concert grand piano—particularly in the felt hammers and piano strings—in order to optimize the expressive dynamic range and pursue a sparkling tone with a sense of colour. Moreover, our skilled craftsmen meticulously take the time and effort to perfectly voice each individual piano, breathing life into the sound and imparting a remarkable sonic quality that responds with profound sensitivity to the player.

AMAZINGLY NATURAL AND TRANSPARENT SOUND, LIKE THAT OF A GRAND PIANO

The gorgeous magic of acoustic pianos is that they resonate throughout the entire instrument, and make even the surrounding air and room vibrate to create a rich, luxurious sound. To take maximum advantage of this phenomenon, the YUS series has a special tone escapement system that releases sound from inside the piano, enhancing the sound so that the player can physically feel the lush sound and be inspired by it.

 GORGEOUS FINISH, EASE OF USE, AND EXTRAORDINARY ATTENTION TO DETAIL

For added convenience and protection, these models feature a soft-close mechanism that slowly closes the fallboard. In addition, the gently curved design of the side arm was realized by arranging rotating metal fittings in the back of the keyboard lid. The polished ebony finish of the YUS1 and YUS3, as well as the artificial leather bed on the shelf of the music rest which prevents music sheets from slipping, give a sense of serene quality to the overall appearance. These pianos also provide a standard safety lock to protect your treasured instrument.

Augmenting the elegant and luxurious polished ebony finish, a satin American walnut finish that brings out the beautiful wood grain as well as a polished mahogany finish are also available. TransAcoustic™ pianos are genuine acoustic pianos, equipped with a volume control feature powered by Yamaha’s latest technology. While it’s also possible to play silently through headphones, the TransAcoustic™ Mode allows you to control the volume of your piano, so you can play without disturbing others. WHAT IS THE TransAcoustic™ Piano?

Inside an acoustic piano, hammers at the opposite side of the keys strike the strings, and the strings vibrate to produce sound. This initial sound is amplified by the soundboard that occupies much of the piano interior, and the entire body of the piano serves as a resonator, creating the rich and harmonically complex sound that is distinctively acoustic. Now, imagine an acoustic piano that allows you to control the volume, while still enjoying the original sound-projecting design of the piano based around the soundboard. That’s Yamaha’s revolutionary TransAcoustic™ Piano.

 

USING THE EXISTING PIANO DESIGN TO RESONATE SOUND WITH THE SOUNDBOARD

When the keys are pressed on an acoustic piano, hammers strike the strings which, in turn, vibrate. But at this stage, the sound is very faint. So, the string vibration is amplified by the soundboard that sits at the heart of the instrument, and the entire body of the piano serves as a resonator, creating rich and sonorous sound. Yamaha’s revolutionary TransAcoustic™ technology takes full advantage of the original design and construction of the piano based around the soundboard.

RICH, EVOCATIVE ACOUSTIC SOUND, FROM A DIGITAL SOURCE

TransAcoustic™ technology does not require any speakers to produce sound. It uses a transducer to convert the sound into vibrations which in turn vibrate the soundboard, which amplifies them and resonates the entire piano. Digital sound sources can be amplified and projected in this way, employing the same sound-generation and resonance mechanism of an acoustic piano, making it possible to reproduce the uniquely sonorous acoustic sound that can be felt by the player, not just heard. What’s more, the digital tone generator features the sounds of two world-renowned concert grand pianos, the Yamaha CFX, and the Bösendorfer Imperial, recorded with impeccable quality using Binaural Sampling techniques.

ADVANCED TRANSDUCER AND SENSOR TECHNOLOGIES EXPRESS EVERY NUANCE OF THE PERFORMANCE

Conventional transducers are too heavy to be installed on the soundboard and would compromise its essential functions. As a result, Yamaha has developed transducers specifically for acoustic pianos, with only a lightweight element affixed to the soundboard. The result is a faithful reproduction of the original acoustic piano sound, with the integrity of the soundboard fully maintained. In addition, the latest models employ a special Articulation Sensor capable of detecting the finest movements of the keys with exceptional precision, authentically reproducing all the delicate playing and expressive nuances of the sound.
