The History of Saldo bows

Atelier Saldo was founded in 1992 by Mr. Otakar Odlas who established to produce world-class bows based on four master bow makers. These bows are suitable for professional and amateur players of all ages and abilities, created from Brazil and Pernambuco woods.

His son Milan with wife Anna joined to work there shortly. Later, his younger son Luboš with his wife Olga, too. Originally the bows were created in a small workshop, in a garage of the family house. All bows were successfully selling to National Schools for Young Players and to Music Conservatoires within Czech Republic. Mr. Odlas then decided to expand to foreign countries and introduced the finest hand-crafted bows at various International Music Instruments Fairs and Exhibitions. With the success and expansion, the position of Atelier Saldo is strong at the world market thanks to the excellent quality at reasonable prices. Atelier Saldo bows are well known and selling to the US, Canada, Spain, Austria, Ireland and reached customers in Japan, Norway, Sweden as well as many other countries.

With this expansion, it was necessary to have all production under one roof. Therefore, new workshops were built on a green lawn near the Odlas’ house in Luby, Západní St. No. 680, which is the only address of Atelier Saldo. Mr. Odlas also built a Concert and Social Hall. Classical music concerts take place here, private occasions of employees and social firms’ activities as well.

Mr. Otakar Odlas died in 2004, and the family firm continues in his will and is led by his wife Jarmila Odlasová who is a soul of the business since its beginning. His son Luboš Odlas took part in the International Competition 2005 in Mittenwald, and his master violin bow was the sixth of the best. This prosperous firm is based on the roots of the whole Odlas Family, now, and hopefully for future generations.
